Diversity and Outreach

About DOC
The NANS Board of Directors always believed that diversity and inclusion are important to the overall mission of the organization. We feel that it not only increases the reach of our specialty but also improves overall patient care.

The Diversity and Outreach Committee (DOC) has been charged with assessing the current state of ethnic diversity within NANS and investigating any possible barriers to accessing neuromodulation therapies by those who live in traditionally underserved communities by pursuing three distinct projects: Outreach, Mentorship, and Research. These projects all aim to bolster NANS’s mission of promoting collaboration among all members and encouraging greater access to neuromodulation education, research, and advocacy.

Event: Color of Pain
On May 20, 2023, the NANS Diversity and Outreach Committee partnered with the nonprofit Miriam Medical Clinics to hold a daylong symposium in Philadelphia for the African-American community and others that have been traditionally underserved in pain management. Dozens of individuals at NANS and other organizations helped create a successful event that raised awareness about advanced pain care treatments, including neuromodulation. More than 100 community members attended.

Thank you to our supporters who made this event possible—Saluda, Medtronic and Nevro. Congratulations to our Diversity and Outreach Committee on an impactful event.
