On Tuesday, June 10, NANS filed comments to CMS on the proposed rule setting forth proposed changes for the Medicare Hospital Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) for fiscal year (FY) 2026. This proposed rule would revise the Medicare hospital inpatient prospective payment systems (IPPS) for operating and capital-related costs of acute care hospitals and make changes relating to Medicare graduate medical education (GME) for teaching hospitals.
After the comment period closes, the CMS agency reviews all comments received and conducts a comment analysis. Agencies will then decide whether to proceed with the rulemaking process or issue a new or modified proposal. In some cases, they withdraw the proposal. The Final Rule is published in the Federal Register (FR), which is publicly available in print and online here. The IPPS Final Rule is expected to be published in late August.
