NANS Supports MACRA Reform

NANS joins national societies and state medical associations in urging Congress to prioritize and advance key bills and legislative proposals that provide greater financial stability to Medicare physicians and reform the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA).

The letter urges leadership to act on bills or future legislation, which reforms MACRA in four key areas:

1. Enacting an annual, permanent inflationary payment update in Medicare that is tied to the Medicare Economic Index (MEI) (H.R. 2474);
2. Budget Neutrality reforms (H.R. 6371);
3. An overhaul of MACRA’s Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS); and
4. Modifications to Alternative Payment Models (APM) (S. 3503/H.R. 5013).

 
The recently released Calendar Year 2025 proposed Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) rule cuts Medicare physician payments by 2.8%, a decrease for the fifth straight year. To further compound the problem, these cuts align with increasing costs to practice.
