NANS spearheaded a letter to Humana executives after members expressed serious concerns regarding ongoing prior authorization delays and denials for Peripheral Nerve Stimulation (PNS) treatments for Humana Medicare Advantage beneficiaries. Despite a favorable National Coverage Determination for PNS, approval rates for therapies remain alarmingly low, with complaints that Humana is covering treatment for traditional Medicare but creating undue administrative burden or outright denying care for patients with Medicare Advantage. While publicly Humana says that they treat both patient populations the same, NANS has been tracking significant differences in care.
NANS recommended that Humana Medicare Advantage beneficiaries have the same access to this life-changing treatment as those covered by traditional Medicare. NANS remains dedicated to increasing patient access through advocacy. Read the full letter here.
