In August, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) made available 2022 Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) performance feedback. This determines whether physicians will receive a positive, neutral or negative payment adjustment on Medicare services in 2024.

Dr. Nameer Haider gave an informative update about the AMA House of Delegates (HOD) meeting at the NANS Town Hall this summer. He focused on issues of interest to NANS members, including the use of Naloxone, non-compete contracts, telehealth, BMI measures and waist circumference for adults, artificial intelligence, prior authorizations and health system consolidation.

Back in March, we alerted you to a draft policy from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee that classified PNS devices for the treatment of acute and chronic pain as investigational. BCBS of TN claimed in that policy that “[o]verall, there is a lack of literature evaluating long-term efficacy and adverse events associated with implantable PNS devices.” You can view our previous commentary here.
We are delighted to report that NANS passed its review by the AMA and maintained in House of Delegates seat.
As the AMA House of Delegates gathers in Chicago next week, NANS delegate Drs. Nameer Haider and alternate delegate Dr. Brice Kessler will be in attendance, representing NANS and neuromodulation.
NANS signed on with the AMA and 90+ other state and specialty societies to strongly oppose the proposed federal “I CAN" Act.
